New mobile start-up Pixelmatic sits at the intersection of three key market trends.
Its co-founders come from triple-A game development companies such as Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard, and Relic.
Its management team is based in Vancouver with its core development staff in Shanghai.
It’s also looking to create what it refers to as “true social games”.
“True social games are games that can enhance existing relationships as well as encouraging new connections,” says CEO Samson Mow, pointing to the rise of platforms like LINE, KakaoTalk, and WeChat.
“We’re on the precipice of a new generation of social mobile games.”
Hitting the ground, socialising
Pixelmatic has been operating in stealth mode for a while; forming in 2011 and raising a seed round in June 2012.
And now it’s ready for action with its first game to be published by Chinese outfit 6waves, initially in Japan on iOS and Android.
“We’ve spent the better part of a year building up our technology and developing our first title, and now we’re ready to really begin the work of advancing social games,” comments CTO Cong Ly, who previously worked on backend services in Activision’s Advanced Technology Group.
“There’s a huge opportunity on the horizon with the explosive growth of messaging apps, and we believe we’re in a unique position to take advantage of it.”
